North Miami Boys Golf Opens Season with Dominant Win Over Whitko The North Miami Boys Golf team opened their 2026 season with an impressive victory over Whitko at Peru Municipal Golf Course, showcasing both veteran leadership and emerging depth across the program. Team Scores: North Miami – 190 Whitko – 238 From top to bottom, the Warriors delivered a complete team performance to secure their first win of the season. ⸻ Varsity Highlights Senior Zeph Reshkus led the way, earning match medalist honors with a 44. His round was defined by consistency and control, including five pars and a clean stretch across the middle holes that helped separate him from the field. Senior Captain Gavyn Fritz (46) delivered one of the most meaningful performances of the day. Fritz highlighted his round with a birdie on the par-3 5th, a momentum-shifting moment that showcased both confidence and precision. After battling leukemia for over a year—and continuing to compete through treatment last season—this round marks a powerful step in his comeback and reflects his resilience and leadership. Sophomore Max Craft (48) showed why he’s considered the future of the program. Craft put together a well-managed round with multiple pars and strong course awareness, avoiding blow-up holes and demonstrating maturity well beyond his years. Senior Riley Collins (52) provided veteran stability, working through early challenges and settling into a more controlled rhythm mid-round to contribute to the team total. Junior Hayden Spin (54) rounded out the varsity scoring with a gritty performance, battling through tough holes and contributing valuable strokes to the winning effort. North Miami’s depth was equally impressive, with the JV squad posting a strong 203 team score, reinforcing the strength and competitiveness of the entire program. In slots #1 and #2 leading the way was a tie for low round honors between Kale Deardorf and Hartley Hoover (49). Senior Kale Deardorf (49) delivered one of the most consistent rounds of the day, highlighted by balanced scoring and the ability to limit mistakes. Keep an eye out because this type of course management will quickly move Kale to the top of the lineup. Hartley Hoover (49), a first-year golfer continues to make an immediate impact. His round showcased grit, mental toughness, and the ability to recover after difficult holes, bringing a competitive edge to the team. Jaxtin Holmes (51) turned in a strong performance with steady scoring and multiple solid holes strung together, continuing to build momentum early in the season. Courtlen Finnegan (54) and Alan Wildermuth (54) both juniors contributed controlled and consistent rounds, demonstrating composure and improving course management. Gabe Butzin (57) showed resilience throughout the round, continuing to develop and contribute valuable depth. Oliver Wildermuth (59) the freshman added to the team effort with a round that reflected perseverance and continued growth. 👀 Player to Watch Hartley Hoover – Senior | First-Year Golfer Hoover is already making an impact early in the season. A state champion wrestler and school record holder, he brings a grind-it-out mentality and competitive toughness that translates naturally to golf. As his game continues to develop, expect him to be a key contributor as the season progresses. This opening win highlights what makes this North Miami team special—experienced leadership, resilience, and emerging talent. From Fritz’s inspiring comeback to the steady presence of senior leaders and the rise of younger players like Craft, the Warriors are building a team capable of sustained success. Just as important, the depth shown by the JV squad reflects a program that is growing stronger from top to bottom. With their first win secured, North Miami will look to build on this momentum, continue developing depth, and sharpen execution as the season progresses. They play at home this Thursday against a talented Pioneer team.
