North Miami Middle/High School

The Lady Warrior Soccer Team held 3 different opponents scoreless last week. While defensive effort across the entire field was a highlight, and possession was strong, offensive production started off a little slower. On Wednesday, North Miami traveled to Wabash and did a nice job of holding possession during the game, but struggled to find any offensive rhythm resulting in a 0-0 tie. Thursday, the Lady Warriors were on the road again, at Taylor, for another game in the heat. The pace was slow and so was offensive production, but the Warriors strung together some important plays in the second half to finish the game with a 4-0 win. Freshman Maddie Hall got the scoring going with her first career goal off an assist by Porscha Pickett. Hall timed a far post run well for the cross and beat the keeper on a low finish. Hall would complete her brace on a hustle play pass by Laina Kling. Kling won a ball on the endline and cut it back toward the far post for a waiting Hall who took the shot first touch into the back of the net. The Warriors third goal was scored by Laina Kling who received a nice slot pass on goal from Pickett and then was able to beat the keeper with a first time hit into the goal. The game was secured with another goal, this time by Senior Kinzy Storm who brought down and collected a goal kick from Taylor, playing a quick give and go with Kling that got Storm in on goal where she was able to beat the keeper with a first touch shot back across goal and into the side net. On Saturday the Warriors returned home to host the visiting Eastern Comets. The cooler weather was welcomed and the Lady Warriors were a little more aggressive toward goal in possession. North Miami went up 1-0 late in the first half when Porscha Pickett sent in a big field switch pass just past the midline where Kinzy Storm was able to collect it and beat the defense for a shot that deflected off the keeper where a crashing Laina Kling hit the ball back toward the goal to open scoring. In the second half, the Lady Warriors continued to possess well through the midfield. The second goal of the game would come when Kling played a cross into the central area of the field and Pickett was able to take one touch to turn, then send in a 22 yard shot that beat the keeper's outstretched arms and into the net just under the crossbar. Pickett was also involved in the third goal when a foul was called on Eastern at the 25 yard line. She took a well placed lofted curving free kick toward the far post where the keeper mishandled the ball allowing a crashing Haylee See to poke it home for the final score of 3-0. Senior Brylee Edwards allowed zero goals for the week and earned both wins. The Lady Warriors are now 6-4-1 and host Mississinewa for Senior Night on Thursday, September 24 at 5:30pm.
