The North Miami cross country team started its season at Rochester with their inaugural Hokum Karem—a relay race in which runners compete in pairs. Each athlete runs three one-mile loops and recovers between loops while the partner is running. The Warriors had only three runners with enough practices attended to compete: senior Leah Miller, sophomore Leah Shafer, and freshman Sydney Lane. This race is essentially a warmup to regular five-kilometer races coming up this week. Leah Miller ran times of 7:46, 8:24, and 8:23, which are outstanding times for her! Leah Shafer's times were 6:32, 6:53, and 7:18, which was a strong performance. Sydney Lane ran times of 7:42, 8:08, and 7:45 in her first high school competition. The Warriors will travel to Northwestern High School on Tuesday to compete in a three-kilometer race—another preparation for their first five-kilometer race Saturday at North White. Let's go Warriors!
