The Lady Warrior Soccer Team opened their season strong with a 3-0 win at home over Rochester on Saturday, Aug 16. After settling in, the Warriors opened scoring early in the first half with a goal by Brylee Edwards, assisted by wing forward Delilah Weaver. Midfield play was strong and North Miami added a second goal after attacking midfielder Porscha Pickett played a slot ball in for Kinzy Storm, who took a touch right to beat the Zebra center back, then a touch left to avoid a charging goalkeeper, to finish a passing shot into the net. The final goal, to seal the game, came in the second half as center-back Sarah Snavely cleared a ball to Kinzy Storm, who split two defenders on a pass to Delilah Weaver on the near right side, who relayed the ball up to an overlapping Porscha Pickett. Pickett took a few set touches and drove a strong shot at the keeper who did well to slow the ball, but it tipped over her head and Kinzy Storm was there to walk the ball in with her knee. The Zebras did make some quality runs at goal, but Lindsey Pugh made some big saves, including a reaching PK save in the second half. The Lady Warriors want to thank everyone who came out and supported their fundraiser while celebrating 25 years of Warrior Soccer and recognizing our Elementary and Jr High Club Soccer Teams. Next up, the Lady Warriors travel to Eastern Greentown on Thursday.
