The North Miami cross country teams had a busy but successful week last week when they hosted the Miami County Championship and then competed in the 22nd Annual New Haven Classic. In the Miami County meet, all four of our runners had excellent performances! In the boys' race, senior Nik Augustyn shaved another 20-plus seconds off his personal best time, finishing in 15th place (earning a ribbon) and crossing the line in 23:05. In the girls’ race, senior Leah Miller ran a lifetime personal best time of 25:49, breaking through the 26-minute barrier with a strong finish! Freshman Sydney Lane ran her best race of the year finishing in 8th place with a time of 24:05. Sophomore Leah Shafer finished in 3rd place overall with a time of 21:39. Great performances on a perfect day for running! The Warriors then went to the New Haven Classic, which is held on Huntington University’s challenging course. Senior Nik Augustyn had a gutsy effort on the difficult course, placing 58th and finishing in 24:56. Freshman Sydney Lane ran the course for the first time, placing 66th with a time of 25:48. Senior Leah Miller and sophomore Leah Shafer were the only North Miami runners that had run the course before, and they both cut last year’s finishing times by over two minutes! Leah Miller placed 82nd and finished in 27:07, while Leah Shafer earned a medal by finishing in the top 30 (19th, 22:43). A successful week for the running Warriors indeed!
