The North Miami High School cross country team finished its regular season in fine form this week, competing in the Peru Tiger Invitational on Tuesday and the HNAC championship at Winamac on Saturday. At the Tiger Invitational, senior Nik Augustyn ran his last race of the season, where he had a strong performance on a hot evening, finishing in 20th place overall and finishing in 23:22. We thank Nik for trying something new his senior year and pushing himself out of his comfort zone! In the girls' race, all three running Warriors had strong showings! On a hot and sunny course, senior Leah Miller finished in 13th place by finishing in 27:22. Freshman Sydney Lane earned a ribbon by finishing in the top ten (8th, 25:54). Sophomore Leah Shafer was the Peru Invitational champion, leading the race from start to finish, and crossing the line in 21:52. On to HNAC: Saturday morning at Winamac Town Park, our three Lady Warriors put forth their best efforts of the season! Senior Leah Miller finished in 25th place overall, running a lifetime best 25:45! Freshman Sydney Lane finished in the top 20, placing 18th with a time of 24:08. Sophomore Leah Shafer ran her best race ever, finishing in 2nd place overall and finishing in 21:08. The Warriors now prepare for the IHSAA sectional meet held at Manchester High School on Saturday, October 18th. Best of luck, Lady Warriors!
